The Matterhorn is respected as one of the world’s most characteristic and famous mountain, an icon embodying powerful forces beyond our control and truly bedazzling with the dramatic beauty of its unique jagged cliffs. Its majestic size and eternal grandeur have always had great appeal to man and inspired daring mountaineers all over the globe to test their boundaries.
In 1857, the first attempt to ascend the Matterhorn was made and, in the following years, 18 expeditions resulted in failure before the first ascent was finally accomplished. Just as the Bastille in Paris had been stormed on the 14th of July 1789, the rock fortress of the Matterhorn was conquered on the same date in the year 1865 by Edward Whymper and his team – before his Italian colleagues and competitors tried to reach the peak from the other mountain-side.
Unlike a traditional 2D large format movie, a 3D film consists of two films being shown simultaneously. The 3D camera has two lenses set the same distance apart as the human eyes, and films both the left and the right eye images at the same time. Through a process called "stereopsis" the brain brings the two views together into a single three-dimensional image. The 3D effect is truly amazing, leading to a completely new experience that entertains the audience and makes each and every individual a genuine part of the story.
A fascinating, entertaining, dramatic and captivating 3D film featuring the Matterhorn will be brought to a worldwide audience, thereby reminiscing to the period of the Matterhorn’s first ascent, the ambition to achieve the impossible and the eternal struggle between man and nature. The film will be of outstanding quality, timeless in its features and a truly modern classic.
